    A Fool's Errand

As the entertainer for the house of Wykenham in the Maltorreth Watch, Jerome is a humble, yet noble, man whose life is thrown into disarray when the outlawed southern lords unite and lay siege to the Watch.

His lord bids him undertake a mission to pass word to the other Watches that defend the southern borders of the Dorayan Empire.

As was asked of him, Jerome pursues his quest with vigour.

Little does he know that his mission is expected to fail, with the hope that the Watchlord’s ring will fall into enemy hands.

On his quest Jerome must face treacherous knights, trails that lead to encounters with spectres, plague and pestilence, and the monsters of legend — the Watchers — any of which could take his life.

Could he possibly succeed, and would that success allow him to save the Empire?

I really enjoyed the book .I didn't know what to expect but it's a story of strength of character. Inspiring... we are all capable of being a good kind person who can effect the world in positive ways... And that extra spice of fantasy and challenges. And I loved the donkey!

I read this book in 2018 and I loved it! I'm in the process of updating my blog with book reviews and when I noticed this book was no longer linked from the old version of the book, I decided to repost my review!

I really enjoyed this book! I don't typically read this genre, I'm more into crime fiction, but this was a fun, exciting book from a talented author. The best thing about this book was definitely the characters. They were all very well written and my favorite character was, of course, the main character, Jerome. I also enjoyed the settings very much. I was able to see and "feel" the grounds in the kingdom. The only downside to this book was a few typos, but they did not distract from the story and the book was very well put together. I would definitely recommend this book.

This deserved 6 stars in my eyes!

I adored this story of Jerome Huggett so much! I had stopped in fear because I have come to love this character, but this story is one I will hold onto. Will read it again and to my child as he gets older. Beautiful, heartfelt story about courage and strength. What an absolute joy to read!!

    Not what I was expecting.

I ordered this book because I had read the previous one by this author ("Neither Here Nor There") and thoroughly enjoyed it.

“A Fool's Errand" took me by surprise, however. The two books are very different - and I must say that I enjoyed this one even more! With strong characters and a cleverly written plot, this book takes us through adventures worthy of Game of Thrones.

The fool of the title is the main character - and whilst far from a fool, his errand takes us on a journey which surprises right to the very unexpected end. I thoroughly recommend this as a good read this summer.

Nothing more to see here folks.

    Erase And Rewind

Angie, like many other children, has an imaginary friend, except in her case they are not as imaginary as they should be.

With her parents wearying of her constant focus on her imaginary friend, Angie runs away to live on the streets.

She learns to judge people without placing herself in any danger and maintains a degree of independence supported by the uncanny knowledge of her "friend".

Unfortunately her health takes a turn for the worse and she is on the point of collapse when a chance encounter changes her poor fortune.

A pimply-faced, punk-haired boy rescues her and provides her with her own 'billet' in the abandoned building he has made his home.

Having another friend, particularly one that lives in the real world, is most welcome.

But Angie's trials are just beginning.

    Hunter

When a mercenary retires, he discovers that retirement is unsatisfactory as it leaves him bored, restless and in desperate need of an adrenaline rush.

With price of little concern, the mercenary searches for an activity, any activity, that will provide him with the adrenaline rush he so desperately needs.

He receives information, untraceable of course, that provides him with a course of action that leads him to participate in a big game hunt. An illegal hunt with sentient and quite belligerent prey.

Unable to resist the temptation he is drawn to select four species.

With prices agreed and paid, he is taken to begin the hunt... only to discover all is not what it was made out to be.

Cheated, imprisoned and impoverished the only recourse open to him is to escape and become a true hunter, with his only prey being the one who had set him up.

    Living With Oedipus

Oedipus Rex - the tale of a prince who desired his mother and murdered his father - gave rise to the notion of the Oedipus Complex.

Can you begin to imagine what it might have been like for a man who became father to a son, and husband to a mother for whom the concept of that complex was founded in reality?

She, the mother was overly protective of her son and was prepared to do anything to support him no matter what crimes he committed.

He, the son devoted to his mother in a dominant and aggressive manner to the exclusion of her husband. The man was in constant conflict with both mother and son, and lived in almost constant fear of assault from his physically bigger and stronger stepson.

When things came to a head, it was a matter of life or death, and it seemed that 'Oedipus' would be king in that household.

An old man, his grandson and the grandson's beloved become embroiled in events that lead to a war between neighbouring nations.

A war caused not just by the machinations of the most corrupt and powerful individuals in their governing body, but also by the denizens of the dark realms where a malevolent evil reigns, all the while plotting to infuse the world with malevolence and mayhem.

Grandfather and grandson are drawn into the conflict and the young man's exuberance for life is sullied and wasted.

Unknown to either of them, their calling is not simply to fight the wars of men, but also to battle the encroaching evil... for such is the life of a paladin.

They live normal lives, unsullied by foreknowledge of their role in the war between good and evil, yet they become aware of such matters when it is time for them to rise up against the denizens of the dark realms that threaten man's very existence.

    War has an unmistakeable odour.

    It is a sickening smell.

The stench of death and decay permeates the air and lingers over the battleground. It gets into your clothes and you take it with you wherever you go.

Until your nose adjusts and you don't smell it any more.

Your eyes become accustomed to the atrocities, and you don't see them.

Ask any veteran and they’ll probably tell you that you kind of get used to blocking it out, even though it's never really gone.

    Until it's your friend…

Then what you see is sickening, the smell intolerable and your rage screams for vengeance.

It gets worse when it is joined by the foul odour of betrayal.

A young boy, a prince, celebrates his birthday with a cruise on the royal sky yacht.

Eyes wide with wonder he watches as the palace fades into the distance behind him, and the forests of the giant Venarbol trees draws ever nearer. It was to be a day of idyll for him, and he is too distracted to witness the emergence of a shrouded figure from the superstructure behind him.

With almost no effort at all the prince is hurled over the side to fall through the forests to his death.

Unbeknownst to the would be assassin, the prince survives the fall, only to be captured by the fierce creatures of the forest floor.

Treated as would be a creature in a menagerie, he is caged for study and then begins a revelation for him and his captors, the Angwol.

Each of them considers the other a beast, and each of them must learn the other's ways. It is essential that they learn to communicate.

At the World Space Administration (W.S.A.), a group of elite candidates from various nations, and a variety of very special disciplines, participate in the competition to be the crew to undertake the first manned mission to Mars.

Rigorous training schedules, mishaps and a number of personal issues for Janine Marshall, aspiring to be the captain of the first manned mission, hinder them as they prepare.

But nothing prepares them for what they encounter there, nor what they bring back.

Great page turner, lots of human interest as well as techno-babble – it’s a tale with a final twist that turns everything on its head.

    Unity

A kingdom lost, a cruel and greedy usurper on the throne, and after many years a populace on the brink of revolution.

But, who is to lead them?

The commoner, Patrick Barford, leads a force that begins the revolt, with but a single objective in mind. To free Lord Carn, the rightful Lord of township and castle of Dormarey.

However, there is another who may be better suited to lead the forces of the people of these lands.

    The Blue Knight.

A knight like no other. Capable of drawing people to a common cause, this individual is a mystery to many as there are few who know their true identity.
