On Nov 3rd we witnessed some incredible courage from one
of the 'pillars' of the writing community. Dawn Hosmer
(@DawnHosmer7) wrote three short tweets to let us know
she had received some terrible news.
Update: after tons of testing & a biopsy, the doctors believe
I have Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to my spine, my
liver, my lymph nodes, & my brain stem. We will not know the
best treatment until the biopsy comes back. I want to be open
about this b/c it's important.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me, said prayers,
and sent love. I feel the love & concern - it means the world
to me. I may not be able to respond to every message but please
know I see them & they matter. I will continue to update as I
go through all of this.
I'm terrified & overwhelmed but determined to fight
w/everything I have in me (which may mean writing & reading
are on hold for a while). Please keep the love & prayers coming.
My family desperately needs them. I have several appts in the
upcoming days which will give direction.
This news has rocked the community to its core, and has provoked
an incredible response of love and support as demonstrated by
the message from Beth Anderson.
Good morning, I've got something really hard to talk about this
morning. Dawn Hosmer, who's an incredibly supportive member of
the community and a really good friend to me and a lot of
others, she's a psychological thriller writer who's written
'Bits and Pieces' along with other excellent books. It looks
like she has stage four breast cancer, and it's spread to her
lymph nodes, her liver, her brain stem and her spine from what
they can tell right now.

She just found out within the last couple of days.
She has a husband and four kids, three of them grown, one of them
a teenager still at home, and she's ready to fight this, but it's
going to be a big fight. So, we have a
GoFundMe
so that at
least we can make the financial side of this a little bit less
stressful for her family, that link is in my bio and I know
anything at all that you can give will be so appreciated by her.
Dawn, we are fighting with you.
I tried to count the number of replies Dawn had received in
response to her original tweet, but there were so many, and
the number kept increasing.
Dawn has very courageously voiced her gratitude in her own
video.
I am so touched by all the support that you guys have shown me,
through your messages, through your
GoFundMe
donations, I... I feel so loved.
I... Yesterday I felt defeated and broken and was crying
tears of worry and pain. Today I am crying tears of joy.
It has nothing to do with dollar amounts, it has to do with the
fact that I feel seen and supported, and loved, and I am so, so
grateful.
Thank you all so much. I need you. I need your support and I need
your prayers.
Thank you.

A short thread
This little thread struck a chord with me as it is a tale
based on a subject I once researched for a NaNoWriMo
project, which was a SciFi story, yet it touched on the
earliest migrations of man.
@ReyFarer1.
Using the #SatSplat theme.
I WAS THERE in the endless winter when the First People
crossed the great ice bridge.
They fled the old world, hunted by dark, greedy spirits
- things of endless hunger.
I watched the glow of their fires, the brief flicker of
their lives.
I heard their prayers, and I answered.
I came forth, blizzard-cloaked, clad in white dread.
My roar was the wind over the mountain, the cracking of
ancient ice.
My war dance spread terror in their foes.

If anyone doubts the validity of belonging to the community
they probably don't know people like Dawn and Beth who make the
sense of belonging so real, and they may never truly
understand the meaning of 'community' as it is used in this
instance.
Let's all do what we can to maintain the spirit of this
wonderful community by being as supportive as we can. The
GoFundMe
links work, use them if you can.
Curated Poems
A selection of poems from some of the fine examples produced
by poets on Twitter.
Submission by : @fizzytwizzler
Words before
Were very few
And far between
Then I found my voice
So now they overflow
Like rivers monsoon
Drowning some
Sorry
Quenching others
I suppose suppose suppose
But I can't stop, if I did
I'd disappear
Water down a plughole
I thought this to be a whimsical choice, so I deferred
asking if I could publish it, despite having translated
the poem to better understand it.

Snowflakes
Excellent use of a term that has come to be used as a
derogatory remark, which takes away the sting as the poem
will explain.

We are all snowflakes
Unique
Beautiful peace
On lease
We are all snowflakes
Sparkling
Reflecting light
Displaying our might
We are all snowflakes
And together,
Playing our part,
We make glorious art.

My claws were as scythes through wheat.
The People praised me and carved my image in mammoth
tusk.
They gave me sacred names, and for years uncounted they
sang them to the stars on the longest night.
Time passed.
Their presence took the spear from my hand, and I slept.
I dreamed the world of ice passed away, and The People
scattered on the wind.
I'll be watching for other entrancing threads during the
week in readiness for the next edition.
A quirky little tweet which comes from a romance author
caught my eye, and I am grateful to have received
permission to publish it here.

Their legendary love
Morphed into a bad dream
She doesn't scream
Even as her heart shatters
And only wicked nightmares
Are left behind
From the unholy rites
of their devotion
Ghost and spooks haunt
What was
And what will never be

However, it was the original
form - in Italian - that had spoken to me, and I just had
to ask, which garnered me the necessary permission.
Not going to provide a translation. But please, savour it in
its original form before you rush to translate it.

A volte
non si combatte
contro l'istinto
ma contro la ragione
che trasforma
i pensieri dei passati
in vanga e piccone
cercando di profanare
il tesoro nascosto
d'una percezione
quell'intensa sensazione
che nonostante tutto con te
mi sta facendo rimanere

He admired her intelligence,
Wit,
And
Creativity,
But what he loved even more,
Was her inscape,
For her heart
Was filled with beautiful, bright light
That sent out many colors,
And enveloped his soul,
In a vast garden,
Where love and joy
Blossomed and grew all the more.

ARTICLES FOR FUTURE EDITIONS
There are certain areas of the writing community that are
under-represented here, which is mainly due to my lack of
involvement in those areas. That does not mean that these
genres/areas/topics are excluded. If you have any articles
tweets, stories, anecdotes to share then do, please, submit
them for consideration.
This is meant to be a publication for the entire writing
community, along with artists, editors, cover designers,
etc.
Like what you've seen here?
Tell your friends, partners, peers, anyone and everyone
who may be interested in any of the content.

A Slapped Wrist
Yes. Some wrists are being slapped.
#Hashtag hosts provide the prompt words on a voluntary basis,
and those are the prompts that should be used.
If, by any chance, you don't like the prompt word on a given
day - WALK AWAY - and come back when the word provided makes
you happier.
The prompts are NOT selected just for YOU!
|
|
There's not one host who deserves the petty tantrums of people
who think that the prompt words are provided only for them.
This is a COMMUNITY, people. It is for everyone, not just those
whose sense of privilege gives rise to outrage and indignation.
IF, as I am fairly certain you do, you think you can do better,
volunteer to take up the role and provide those prompt words
that are so very easy to find.
Play nicely kids!
