"EVERYONE HAS A VOICE WE WANT TO LISTEN TO"
|
|
|
"What The Book" is a series of interviews with indie authors
about all things related to indie authors.
The idea for WTB came to Dzintra Sullivan over two years ago
and in her own words: "What The Book" loves Indie
authors. It dedicates each episode to interviewing a
different indie author each week. It spotlights creators who
refuse to take 'no' for an answer. It's humorous,
entertaining, and sometimes sexy. It also encourages authors
to tell their stories, do a little dance, and get down with
the crew.
The crew? Dzintra - @DzintraSullivan,
Kia - @kia_crystal and Marc - @authormbdavis.
When? 19:00 EDT Saturday.

On WTB they welcome authors of all sizes and shapes. From
writers of their first novel to seasoned writers; those with
big followings or small platforms the crew don't care
because "Everyone has a voice we want to listen to".
Dzintra started it because she felt the need to give back
to the community that had given so much to her. She saw a
lot of authors struggling to get their names seen, to be
given traction, etc. She knows that sometimes hearing an
author talk about their books helps people relate, connect
and hopefully become regular readers of the author.
She set up WTB to give authors access to a platform that
is normally unavailable to them.
Each interview is based on completely organic chat. Dzintra
doesn't like scripts or planned conversations as she would
prefer the listeners hear an author at their ease in a
relaxed situation. It's like a conversation that you might
have when you're sitting around a table, sharing a beer at
the local bar. No one ever knows where the conversation will
go, and some truly fascinating things have been revealed
about our author peers.
They have produced over 100 episodes to date. With over 50
being produced on Podbean, the current platform, which is
recorded live when the interview takes place with a live
audience. Earlier episodes were produced using Anchor.
But having a live audience is much more fun.
Once recorded the episodes are uploaded to Spotify and
YouTube. You can search for them or visit @WTBPodcast for
more information.
Marc enjoys an adult beverage of some kind for each episode,
most commonly a beer, he also states that at the end of
every episode they play a fun game just like Family Feud
that they call "Booker Feud". The question usually pertains
to the guest in some way. Dzintra takes up the role of host
and finds a question from Family Feud along with the top 5
survey answers. He and Kia are on opposite sides and the
guest can select which side they want to join. It's always
fun and there is plenty of trash talk.
In a huge stage aside he adds "I win almost every week",
which may not in fact be true, but it will drive Kia crazy."

She asked for help
Words lost to the abyss
Without proof...
Until there he tries...
As she lays still
A red #river blossoming
From under her cooling body
His #confession as silent
As her voice in the wind
She asked for help

#Rivers of expletives nourished the landscape of
Jacques' work, breeding a violent civilization of
clashing plots and twists. His readers lapped up the
figurative bloodshed, and by the ancient rite of his
name on the cover, Jacques was nourished as well.
To err is human
To forgive divine
To correct is an editor's job
(or a teacher's).

He's like the #river, wild, churning.
I push.
In a flurry of red, Ben wheels like a cartoon character
and is gulped away.
I can barely see past the raindrops, but a figure is
ahead.
I push past him a little too hard.
These will be accidents, not #confessions.

A VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND
This was the view of
the harbour and the bridge from the Auckland Tower.

I have fond memories of some of the strange, wonderful and
truly beautiful things I encountered when I visited the top

This cheeky devil let me get just close enough to start
getting my camera ready. But I was too slow.
He ended up giving me the side-eye from the depths of his
sanctuary in the crevice between two huge boulders,
mumbling something about paparazzi.

Almost clear skies for this late evening shot just after
the sun had gone down over the horizon.
No breeze and pleasant temperatures considering it was
just after the New Year had begun.

When I first saw this stack of books I had no idea what
it was. Beautiful, highly polished Kauri wood had been
carved to form a stacke of books, right?
Wrong! The top book opens out to turn the stack into a
coffee table worthy of any writer's sweetest dreams. But,
no matter how many times I counted coin, there wasn't
enough to buy it, let alone ship it back to the U.K.

This "teeny-tiny" beach bears the magnificent name
"Ninety-Mile beach". Whoever named had allowed their
imaginings to exceed reality. But I can definitely tell
you it is a very, very long beach. I never did find out
exactly how long it was. At least, not until I asked
Google. It's actually fifty-five miles long, all of it
beautiful, soft-on-the-feet sand.
